  • Tra il 1919 e il 1922 le città italiane furono attraversate da un'ondata di violenza politica intensa, senza precedenti, una sorta di guerra a bassa intensità che contribuì – tra l'altro – a ridisegnarne i luoghi e i simboli identitari delle città. A Modena, proprio al centro di tutto questo, ci furono i luoghi della comunità ebraica: soprattutto piazza Mazzini e adiacenze.La città di Modena appare un caso di studio interessante, da un lato per compren dere come le spinte che da destra agitavano il Paese (nazionalismo, arditismo, futuri smo, fiumanesimo…) siano riuscite a convergere in nuove forme di rappresentanza che attirarono, nella loro orbita, anche una parte non marginale della comunità ebraica; dall'altro per capire come quelle stesse spinte abbiano costituito, all'opposto, una grave minaccia per un'altra parte della comunità, che si oppose fin dall'inizio al messaggio mussoliniano.   • Between 1919 and 1922, Italian cities were hit by an unprecedented wave of inten- se political violence, a sort of low-intensity war that contributed – among other things – to redesigning the cities' places and identifying symbols.In Modena, right at the centre of all this, there were the places of the Jewish community: above all, Piazza Mazzini and its surroundings. The city of Modena appears to be an interesting case study, on the one hand, to understand how the thrusts that agitated the country from the right (nationalism, daring, futurism, fiumanism, and so on) managed to converge in new forms of representation that attracted, in their orbit, even a non-marginal part of the Jewish community. On the other hand, to understand how those same trusts have constituted, on the contrary, a serious th- reat to another part of the community, which opposed Mussolini's message from the beginning.
