"Quel giorno finalmente indossai la camicia rossa" : la spedizione Agnetta e i primi volontari in appoggio dei Mille

  • Il saggio indaga la prima spedizione di volontari che nel maggio 1860 si imbarcò a Genova per raggiungere i Mille in Sicilia, dove erano sbarcati da poche settimane al seguito di Garibaldi. Guidati da Carmelo Agnetta, i membri di questa spedizione erano incaricati di portare armi e munizioni. L'iniziativa di Agnetta offre l'opportunità di riflettere sull'insieme delle spedizioni di volontari che salparono dall'Italia settentrionale per unirsi al- le camicie rosse. Per di più, l'adesione di un così rilevante numero di individui alla campagna invita a riconsiderare fino a che punto sia corretto ritenere le "masse" e le classi popolari estranee al Risorgimento. L'autrice porta alla luce alcuni itinerari biografici dei volontari che presero parte alla spedizione, così come il loro viaggio verso la Sicilia a bordo del vapore Utile. [Testo dell'editore].
  • The essay focuses on the first expedition of volunteers who embarked in Genoa at the end of May 1860 in order to join the Garibaldian undertaking in Southern Italy known as "the Expedition of the Thousand". They were led by Carmelo Agnetta and were given the task of bringing new weapons and munitions. The enterprise of Agnetta gives the opportunity to reflect on the expeditions of volunteers who departed with the purpose of joining the red shirts throughout the Garibaldian undertaking as a whole. Moreover, the participation of such a number of men invites to reconsider how far the "masses" did not support the Italian Risorgimento. The author also brings to light some of the biographical itineraries of the volunteers who took part in the undertaking, as well as their voyage to Sicily on board the steamer Utile.
