L'assistenza psichiatrica pubblica italiana nelle leggi e nella politica

  • Da sessant'anni l'Italia è terreno di diffuse esperienze di costruzione di Servizi pubblici di salute mentale alternativi all'assistenza psichiatrica in manicomio: dopo la Legge 180 del 1978 e la chiusura dei manicomi, operano i Dipartimenti di Salute Mentale collocati nelle Aziende sanitarie del Servizio Sanitario Nazionale. Viene passato in rassegna il dibattito nazionale, in particolare le vicende di più di quarant'anni di confronti e rapporti fra governi, Parlamento, università e Servizio Sanitario Nazionale da una parte, e movimento antiistituzionale dall'altra. Sono evidenziate alcune drammatiche criticità della fase in corso e avanzate proposte per un possibile nuovo inizio. [Testo dell'editore].
  • Over the last sixty years, Italy has witnessed widespread experiences aimed at the construction of public mental health services in the community alternative to psychiatric care in asylums: after the Italian Law n. 180 of 1978 and the closure of psychiatric hospitals, in the National Health Service there are many Community Mental Health Centers within "Health Agencies", that are basically institutions operated under the principles of a private company. The national debate is reviewed, in particular the events of more than forty years of confrontations and relationships between governments, Parliament, universities, and the National Health Service, on one side, and the antiinstitutional movement, on the other. Some dramatic criticalities of the current phase are highlighted and proposals are put forward for a possible new beginning. [Publisher's text].
