La narrativa comica di Henry Fielding e l'importanza dell'esempio cervantino analizza l'influenza del Don Chisciotte sulla narrativa di Henry Fielding, a partire da un excursus della ricezione del romanzo spagnolo in Inghilterra. Da una analisi del Joseph Andrews e del Tom Jones di Fielding in relazione al Don Chisciotte, affiorano evidenti paralleli nell'uso della parodia letteraria, di specifiche innovazioni diegetiche e nel ricorso ad alcuni episodi e personaggi. Rilevando come nella narrativa dei due autori l'innovazione letteraria proceda dalla decostruzione e attualizzazione della letteratura precedente, e dal precetto classico dell'«struire divertendo», il volume si sofferma sul ruolo di Fielding e Cervantes nella nascita del romanzo di finzione e del self-conscious novel.
  • Annalisa Martelli ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in Lingue, letterature e culture comparate presso l'Università di Firenze. Nel 2017 ha pubblicato un articolo intitolato "The Knight of the Burning Pestle e l'influsso del Chisciotte". Nel 2019 ha presentato una relazione alla Iasems Graduate Conference, dal titolo "Shaping Early Modern Society: The Role of City Comedies on Social Classes' Behaviour and Self-perception".   • «The good comic novel». La narrativa comica di Henry Fielding e l'importanza dell'esempio cervantino analyses the influence of Don Quixote on Henry Fielding's fiction, starting with a survey of the reception of the Spanish novel in England. Joseph Andrews and Tom Jones are analyzed and compared with the Spanish novel, from which Fielding overtly borrowed some characters, episodes, and Cervantes' parodic strategies. Fielding's and Cervantes's narrative proceeded from the parodic deconstruction and subsequent innovation of previous literature, with the main purpose of teaching and amusing the reader at the same time. Finally, the volume examines the role of Fielding and Cervantes in the rise of the fictional and the self-conscious novel.
  • Annalisa Martelli is a PhD in Comparative Literatures at the University of Florence. In 2017 she published an article titled "The Knight of the Burning Pestle e l'influsso del Chisciotte". In 2019 she presented a paper at the Iasems Graduate Conference, titled "Shaping Early Modern Society: The Role of City Comedies on Social Classes' Behaviour and Self-perception".
