  • L'articolo si pone due obiettivi: da un lato rivendicare l'importanza del dibattito sugli oracoli come riflessione della cultura occidentale su se stessa e sulla propria identità cristiana in relazione al paganesimo, dall'altro fornire una nuova valutazione della figura dell'anabattista di Haarlem Anton van Dale (1638-1708), autore del fortunato trattato De oraculis, che lo allontani dall'ombra di Fontenelle – il cui uso nell'Histoire des oracles dell'opera dell'olandese ne ha condizionato la ricezione – e definisca la sua specificità nell'ambito della discussione sugli oracoli, specialmente in rapporto ad altri suoi testi e a certe dinamiche caratteristiche delle sette protestanti del tempo.   • This article aims at highlighting the importance of the debate on the oracles as a reflection of the Western culture on itself and on its christian identity in relation to paganism. It also aims at giving a new interpretation of the Haarlem anabaptist Anton van Dale (1638-1708), author of the treatise De oraculis, quite successful at the time but too often read in the light of Fontenelle's Histoire des oracles. The article will try therefore to assess van Dale's specificity and originality on the topic of the oracles by taking into account some of his other works and certain tendencies of the protestant sects of the time.
