  • L'argomento del presente studio riguarda le prime due traduzioni inglesi (1909 e 1922) dell'Estetica come scienza dell'espressione e linguistica generale (Aesthetic as science of Expression and general Linguistic) di B. Croce, entrambe a cura di Douglas Ainslie, editore Macmillan. Documenti inediti, nella fattispecie la corrispondenza intercorsa tra il filosofo e il suo traduttore, così come tra l'editore Macmillan, Douglas Ainslie, e il filosofo Robin George Collingwood hanno consentito di accertare la paternità di questi per la traduzione del 1922 e di individuare le motivazioni che determinarono il suo anonimato.   • The subject of this study concerns the first two translations in English of the Estetica come scienza dell'espressione e linguistica generale (Aesthetic as science of Expression and general Linguistic) by Benedetto Croce, published by Macmillan and Co., 1909 and 1922. Both of them are well known as being edited by Douglas Ainslie. Unpublished documents, such as the exchanged correspondence between the philosopher and the translator as well as between the publisher Macmillan, Douglas Ainslie, and the philosopher Robin George Collingwood allowed to ascertain the authorship of the edition 1922 by the latter. Furthermore, a try is given in order to the reasons that determined his anonymity. [Publisher's text].
