The Europe of decentralised courts : Palaces and Royal Sites : the construction of the political image of the Bourbons of Italy and Spain through new rituals and ceremonials

  • Il saggio esamina le funzioni delle "corti decentrate" come proprie dell'Europa mediterranea che si diffondono tra la Spagna e i Regni di Napoli e di Sicilia. È un esperienza diversa da quella della "Corte accentrata", come quelle che ispirano Parigi e Vienna. Nell'area dei Borbone d'Europa, rituali, cerimoniali, insomma l'anno del re, della regina e della Corte, si svolge in spazi ben ristretti ed individuabili che si dividono tra la Reggia ed una serie di Siti Reali. Di qui la metafora dell'Europa delle "Corti decentrate". L'articolo individua un unico contesto che lega ruolo e funzioni di regge e siti reali, i temi adottati dalla macchina della propaganda politica delle monarchie borboniche attraverso nuovi cerimoniali e rituali (cavalcate, caccie, il gusto per le antichità ed i siti archeologici, il nuovo ruolo del gran tour)
  • che sono praticati in nuovi spazi privati del re (che si identificano come i nuovi spazi del potere) che si innervano lungo percorsi che interessano i siti reali e che finiscono per emarginare ruolo e funzioni delle regge e palazzi reali. [Testo dell'editore].
  • This paper analyses the functions of "decentralised courts", which would characterise Mediterranean Europe and would spread both in Spain and the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily. This experience is different from the socalled "centralised court" which would inspire Paris and Vienna instead. In Bourbon Europe, rituals and ceremonials - i.e. the year of the king, of the queen and of the court - would be held in limited and well identified places, namely between the royal palace and a number of royal sites. Hence, the metaphor of the Europe of "decentralised courts". This paper detects a fil rouge linking together the role and functions of royal palaces and royal sites with Bourbon political propaganda, made up of new ceremonials and rituals, such as horse-riding, hunting, cult for antiquities and archaeological sites, and the Grand Tour.
  • These latter practices would take place in new private spaces of the king, that is the new spaces of power, which included the royal sites and ended up marginalizing royal palaces. [Publisher's text].
