I lavoratori italiani non sono degos : l'immigrazione italiana in Norvegia negli anni Cinquanta

  • "Era spesso peggio per coloro che arrivavano per primi" e gli italiani furono tra i primi immigranti a trasferirsi in Norvegia negli anni '50. Le ragioni che spinsero gli italiani in questa parte remota di Europa si staccavano e differenziavano dall''immigrazione degli italiani nello stesso periodo e verso altri paesi europei. I movimenti migratori si incanalavano lungo itinerari che erano spesso accomunati da una lunga storia comune: la mobilità circolare di ancien régime. Gli italiani non costituirono mai un numero veramente numeroso, pur tuttavia era il gruppo più consistente tra i sud europei residenti in Norvegia.
  • I norvegesi dal canto loro non erano abituati a questi nuovi stranieri e la diffidenza tra i due gruppi non tardò a farsi sentire e negli anni '60 si diffusero alcuni pregiudizi anti-italiani. In questo periodo ci fu infatti una vera e propria di "resediskriminering", per usare le parole dei giornali norvegesi, ossia "discriminazione razziale" nei confronti degli immigrati italiani.   • "It was often worse for those who arrived first", and Italians were among the first immigrants to move to Norway in the 50's. The causes that prompted Italians to move to this remote part of Europe stood out and differed from migration of Italians directed towards other European countries in the same period. Migration flows were channeled along routes that were often united by a long common history: the circular mobility of ancien régime. Despite the fact that the number of Italians immigrants never was to become very large, they nevertheless constituted the largest group among the southern European residents in Norway. The Norwegians on their part were not used to these new foreigners and the distrust between the two groups was not slow to make itself felt, and in the 60s some anti-Italian prejudices were widespread. In this period there was in fact, to use the words of the Norwegian newspapers, a real "rasediskriminering", that is "racial discrimination" against Italian immigrants. [Publisher's text].
