[Publisher's text] This work combines two studies. The first is an historical essay on the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the Risorgimento in Tuscany by Eugenio Giani, the other is based on the artistic work of the sculptor Pio Fedi and was written by Anita Valentini. Fedi’s works, among which are the funeral monument devoted to Giovan Battista Niccolini in the Santa Croce Basilica that would inspire Bartholdi and Eiffel’s Statue of Liberty, and the magnificent sculpture representing the Ratto di Polissena which is now located into the Loggia della Signoria, garnered him great fame. His sculpture commemorating Tuscan ratification of the Risorgimento was bought by the prince Eugenio of Savoy for the city of Florence in 1866. Italian text.
