This first in-depth study of the work of Attilio Calzavara, the eclectic and innovative Italian anti-Fascist architect and graphic designer, serves two important functions. It provides a comprehensive catalogue of the Calzavara Archive at The Wolfsonian Foundation - design, artistic and architectural drawings, documents, memorabilia and critical holdings which reflect the artist's aesthetic contributions, his views of contemporary culture and the various factors which inspired his graphic work during the first half of the twentieth century. At the same time it represents a fundamental contribution to the "horizontal" analysis of Italian art history, considering, in a contemporary optic, the difficulties faced by an artist such as Calzavara, who never joined the national Fascist Party yet who, in spite of ideological and economic restrictions, continued to work under a dictatorial regime in which he did not believe. Bibliographic references and an index of names complete the work. Casalini libri s.p.a. Via Benedetto da Maiano, 3 50014 Fiesole (FI), Italy Tel.
