Echi della demonologia pselliana nel De daemonibus di Agostino Nifo
P. 53-76
The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the presence of Michael Psellus's demonology in Agostino Nifo's De daemonibus. Nifo's main source in this case is Psellus's dialogue Timotheos, translated into Latin by Mar- silio Ficino. Ficino's translation - not entirely faithful to the original - serves as a kind of paraphrase of the main issues raised in Psellus's text. Nifo incorporates Psellus's demonology into his own analysis of the nature and operationes of demons, drawing inspiration precisely from the Ficinian version. The Psellian echoes in the De daemonibus contribute to enriching the variety of sources to which Nifo refers, introducing elements whose origins can be traced back to the broader context of Byzantine demonology [Publisher's text].
