- In this article the author oï¬Âers an in-depth analysis of the political relations of the Russian Federation with the countries making up the so-called "Near Abroad" in the post-Soviet era. Through the lenses of a systematic periodization of the evolution of Russian policies in the last three decades, the author aims to highlight how the "crisis" emerged in the aftermath of Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine, starting in February 2022, can be also seen as the final outcome of the long-term development of the political strategy and instruments implemented by the Kremlin for the promotion of regional integration.
