  • Il sonetto più famoso della letteratura italiana (Petrarca, R.v.f., XXXV) celebra, come aspirazione fondamentale, la perfetta endiadi di solitudine e pensiero. Ma il significato profondo del sonetto sta precisamente nel contrasto tra grandezza dell'aspirazione (pensiero) e grandezza dell'obbligo (amore), altrove considerato ineluttabile: «sic eat, quando aliter esse non potest» (Secretum, III).   • The most famous sonnet of Italian literature (Petrarch, R.v.f., XXXV) celebrates, as fundamental desire, the perfect coincidence of loneliness and thought. But the deeper meaning of the sonnet definitely lies in the conflict between the highness of the expression (thinking) and the strength of the constraint (loving), elsewhere taken as inevitable: “sic eat, quando aliter esse non potest” (Secretum, III).
