  • La stagione storiografica sugli studi mediterranei inaugurata nel 2000 con la pubblicazione di The Corrupting Sea di Peregrine Horden e Nicholas Purcell ha aperto nuove prospettive che criticano l'idea di unità dello spazio mediterraneo proposta da Braudel. Nuove ricerche applicano queste prospettive anche al Mediterraneo d'età contemporanea in relazione alla formazione dei nazionalismi e degli imperialismi. Empire and Nation in the Mediterranean, 18951945, inquadrandoli storiograficamente all'interno degli studi postbraudeliani.   • The historiographical season on Mediterranean studies inaugurated in 2000 with the publication of The Corrupting Sea by Peregrine Horden and Nicholas Purcell has opened new perspectives that criticize Braudel's idea of the unity of the Mediterranean space. New research also applies these perspectives to the Mediterranean in contemporary times in relation to the formation of nationalisms and imperialisms. This review discusses in particular Claudio Fogu's recent volume The Fishing Net and the Spider Web: Mediterranean Imaginaries and the Making of Italians, and Valerie McGuire's volume Italy's Sea. Empire and Nation in the Mediterranean, 18951945, framing the two volumes within postBraudelian scholarship. Both essays, published in 2020, emphasize the importance of the Mediterranean question in the Italian national imagination. [Publisher's text].
