  • All'interno dell'arcipelago dei modelli di racconto cinematografico del fascismo, della Resistenza e della guerra, avviati ormai, dagli anni Settanta in poi, su una notevole diversificazione, La notte di San Lorenzo dei fratelli Taviani spicca per complessità. L'atteggiamento ambivalente nei confronti di un passato che è insieme regressivo e utopico, caratteristico dei lavori precedenti dei registi toscani, si scioglie in questo film nel confronto con un passato drammatico attraverso gli occhi di una bambina, e nel tentativo di conciliare la durezza della storia con il pathos della memoria. Muovendosi dialetticamente tra storia e memoria, i Taviani realizzano l'opera filmica che, fino a quel momento, meglio mostra, e racconta, il versante della guerra civile. [Testo dell'editore]
  • In the archipelagos of the filmic models used to portray the Fascism, the Resistance and the war - models that since the 1970s have increasingly gone through a considerable diversification - The Night of the Shooting Stars by the Taviani brothers stands out for its complexity. In this film the Tuscan directors' ambivalent approach to the past typical of their previous works, both regressive and utopian, dissolves while facing a dramatic past through the eyes of child and attempting to reconcile the toughness of history with the pathos of memory. Wavering dialectically between history and memory, the Taviani brothers realize the filmic work that, up to that moment, better shows and narrates the page of the civil war. [Publisher's text]
