  • Le disposizioni legislative italiane del 1964 e 1982 hanno decretato la fine della struttura agraria mezzadrile che per secoli aveva connotato la sistemazione delle campagne nella Toscana, nell'Umbria e nelle Marche. Un sistema produttivo che, per essere basato sulla coltura promiscua e la debole relazione col mercato, appariva senza dubbio arcaico nel secondo Novecento ma nel quale si riconosceva anche l'intrinseca attenzione verso l'ambiente e l'apporto alla costruzione del ‘bel paesaggio' dell'Italia centrale.
  • Il contributo propone una riflessione sul lascito della mezzadria e sulle ripercussioni ambientali e paesistiche dell'agricoltura nella transizione al XXI secolo, considerando da un lato gli effetti delle direttive dell'Unione Europea, gli avvicendamenti colturali, gli impatti della meccanizzazione e della fertilizzazione chimica sui suoli e sulle risorse idriche; dall'altro, quelli del rural idyll, dell'avanzare dell'agricoltura hobbistica e delle prospettive dell'agricoltura biologica.   • The Italian legislative provisions of 1964 and 1982 decreed the end of the sharecropping agricultural structure that for centuries had characterised the arrangement of the countryside in the Tuscany, Umbria and Marche regions. It was production system that, as it was based on mixed cultivation and the weak relationship with the market, undoubtedly appeared archaic in the second half of the twentieth century. On the other hand, its intrinsic attention to the environment and the contribution to the construction of the ‘beautiful landscape' of central Italy were also recognised.
  • The contribution proposes a reflection on the legacy of sharecropping and the environmental and landscape repercussions of agriculture in the transition to the 21st century, considering on the one hand the effects of European Union directives, crop changes, the impacts of mechanisation and chemical fertilisation on soils and water resources; on the other hand, those of the rural idyll, the advancement of hobby agriculture and the prospects of organic agriculture.
