La rivendicazione odierna del diritto alla città

2019 - Franco Angeli

30-45 p.

  • In March 1968, Henri Lefebvre published Le Droit à la ville. This "manifesto" is part of a social climate marked by the revolts of May '68 and a specific urban development that an-nounces the end of the industrial city, its disintegration in the banlieues and suburbs. At the turn of the 21st century, in a new context of growing urban inequalities and under the influence of Anglo-Saxon geographers, several urban civil movements, to which the main international institutions will be added, were federating around the right to the city. Everyone is committed to participating in the "rebirth" of this right and its international spread: the right to the city thus becomes the globalized version of the right to the city. After recalling the genesis of the right to the city, the article proposes to analyze the context of its recovery and the actors involved, to conclude that the contemporary claim of the right to the city coincides with a current movement and not in reference to that of the past.
