Oggetti e individui sulle rotte della mobilità mediterranea della fine dell'età del Bronzo : dati recenti e recentissimi dalla necropoli della Trapezà di Eghion

2019 - Istituto italiano di preistoria e protostoria

P. 1-28

  • In the contribution some data from the Mycenaean cemetery of the Trapezà near Aigion, Eastern Achaea, are discussed, in particular concerning the post-palatial or 12th-11th BC reoccupation of Tomb 1 – explored in the 2013-2014 campaigns – and Tomb 6, which during recent fieldwork (2017-2018) permitted to verify the very same patterns of diachronic occupation and ritual practices. Both funerary contexts point to the inception of a new substantial occupation of the area starting from the advanced post-palatial period onwards and founded on the participation of the site in the international network of relationships linking the East to the West during the Italian Final Bronze Age. Some evidence pointing to special Adriatic contacts - generally concerning materiality, including both materials and patterns of ritual behaviour - are emphasized, which prompts to reappraise the theme about modes and agency making the Late Bronze Age Aegean connection in the Ionian-Adriatic area.
  • From the consideration of the data of the Trapezà within a wider Aegean perspective (late 13th-11th c BC), it seems possible to suggest that most Eastern Mediterranean components, including Cypriote and Levantine ones, reached the Adriatic through the agency of a network of communities, groups and individuals in the framework of the Mediterranean mobility and with a main role of some central nodes, such as the Cretan centres and Tiryns in the Argolid.
