L'arte paleolitica in Italia tra metafore figurative cosmopolite e linguaggi locali e interregionali

2020 - Istituto italiano di preistoria e protostoria

P. 19-30

  • The author presents a summary of Italian Upper Palaeolithic art in the European context. The figurative evidence, from the Aurignacian to the Final Epigravettian, is correlated with European cultural dynamics based on lithic industries, funerary practices and rock and mobile representations. From the Aurignacian on, the Italian artistic evidence is related to shared European iconography, attesting the diffusion of lifestyles and figurative languages (styles) in a large area of the continent. Relations with western and central-eastern Europe are proposed. At the same time, original aspects are also presented (‘Mediterranean style' in Graziosi's sense),confirming local reinterpretations and cultural trends. [Publisher's text]
