  • The volume provides a detailed overview of the reform of canonical processes for the causes of declaration of nullity of marriage introduced by pope Francis with the motu proprio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus and Mitis et Misericors Iesus. Among the most important modifications aimed at the greater celerity and simplicity of the process are the abolition of the centuries-old institution of the double conforming sentence in order to be able to contract a new marriage and the abbreviated process before the bishop. Prompted by the awareness that many faithful are living difficult situations in their marriages, the reform is inspired by a number of key principles which, notwithstanding the need to safeguard the principle of indissolubility of the conjugal bond according to truth and justice, give it a highly pastoral connotation.
