• This study involves a representative sample of Italian emerging adults and analyses their commitment to two forms of volunteering: continuous volunteering and episodic volunteering. On the basis of their commitment to voluntary service (past or current experiences of volunteering), the study compares their levels of civic engagement, trust, attitude towards politics and subjective wellbeing. The results sketch the picture of an engaged young generation (72.6% of the participants have past or current experiences of volunteering) both in continuous and/or episodic volunteering. These results led the researchers to hypothesise the existence of a process of innovation and increased flexibility in the ways emerging adults approach participation and civic engagement, as well as in the modalities of engagement in voluntary service.
